Stone Canyon Road is the quiet spine of old Bel Air — a private, sycamore-lined corridor where the world’s most discreet fortunes have kept their homes for a century. Number 982 is its newest chapter.
Set on a gated corner parcel above the canyon, minutes from the storied Hotel Bel-Air and the East Gate, the residence occupies one of the few addresses in Los Angeles that requires no explanation. Behind its walls: a gated motor court, and a house conceived as a single, continuous work of art.
Completed in 2024, the house is a composition of cantilevered planes and floor-to-ceiling glass that dissolves the boundary between rooms and canyon. A grand glass foyer opens to an entertainer’s main level — open-plan living, a private office, and walls that retract at the touch of a hand.
The minimalist chef’s kitchen is finished in stone and fitted entirely with Gaggenau — an oversized waterfall island at its center, engineered as much for a private chef’s service for forty as for espresso alone at dawn.
The primary suite commands the canyon from its private balcony — a linear marble fireplace, dual dressing rooms, and a spa bath with steam shower and sauna. From here, the private elevator descends directly to the garage: from bed to motor court without a single shared wall.
Outside, the architecture gives way to a zen composition of heated pool and spa, koi pond, and sculpted gardens. A detached guest house with its own kitchen, living room and rooftop terrace hosts guests — or staff — at a diplomatic distance.
Every sightline, material and shadow at 982 Stone Canyon was decided by a single hand — the studio behind Melanie Marlo Design, whose residences have appeared on Netflix’s Selling Sunset, and whose work here was itself featured on Bravo’s Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles. The estate is offered as it was conceived: complete.
“My goal is to create livable pieces of art where all the facets blend to inspire an instant emotional connection.”
Behind the East Gate, the canyon holds a century of quiet ownership — the Hotel Bel-Air at one end, the reservoir and the ridgelines at the other. Everything the city offers is minutes away; none of it is audible from here.
